God is great, God is good, Let us thank Him for our food!
I remember as a little girl saying this grace every night before dinner: God is great, God is good
Let us thank Him for our food
Of course, the "Amen" was the most vehement part of my prayer, meaning that I could immediately grab my fork and chow down. Grace was a means of getting to my food as quickly as possible.
Today, I'll admit more often than not I feel the same way. Sometimes I even sneak a bite while my husband is praying ... but only when I'm REALLY hungry.
I want to be more intentional about praising God for my food and understanding His intentions for our meals. I love breaking bread with friends, I love cooking for those that I love. I like experimenting in the kitchen ... I am humbled, rewarded, anxious, prayerful, joyful and a whole mix of emotions every time I set foot in my little kitchen. It's a journey of faith ... faith that my bread will rise, faith that we'll have enough for the groceries this month, faith that the harvest will bring us food from our CSA farm.
